Acrylic is a clear noncrystalline thermoplastic, weather & shatter resistant with many applications including plastic glassware, display fixtures, advertising signs, models, toys, light fittings, safety shields for machinery and display cabinets etc.
Acrylic is approximately half the weight of glass making it an ideal substitute in a wide range of applications. It is also impact resistant, unaffected by sun or salt spray and suited to applications across a temperature range of -30 to 160° F.
Acrylic is also suited to components with thin walls and either large or complicated profiles.
One property of acrylic is its tendency to build up static electricity which should be considered at the design stage. Acrylic plastic is also not easily recycled and is considered a group 7 plastic among recycled plastics and as such is not collected for recycling in most communities.
Acrylic plastics are one of the oldest plastic
materials in use today, chosen primarily for their optical
clarity and resistance to the outdoor environment
making them
the
material
of choice for many applications.
