Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, or ABS, (chemical formula (C8H8· C4H6·C3H3N)n) is a common thermoplastic used to make light, rigid, molded products such as piping, automotive body parts, wheel covers, enclosures, protective head gear and toys. In plumbing, ABS pipes are the black pipes (PVC pipes are white) and also in Plastic Pressure Pipe Systems.
As a general purpose injection moulding thermoplastic ABS is plating grade, offers a high gloss and is flame retardent.
ABS offers good mechanical properties including impact resistance even in low temperatures.
Weather resistance for ABS is restricted, but can be drastically improved by additives such as black pigments.
Chemical resistance for ABS is relatively good and it is not affected by water, non organic salts, acids and basic. The material will dissolve in aldehyde, ketone, ester and some chlorinated hydrocarbons.
ABS injection moulding thermoplastic is available on all
our machines allowing us to handle high volumes as required.
